Turns Out, My Butt Was Just Ahead of Its Time
Aug 13, 2025
Yesterday I was shopping with my 19 year-old daughter Charley.
We were in Myer, trying on clothes from very different labels - but having a great time.
She suddenly turned to me and said "I wish I had your butt, you look like you've had a BBL".
For those of you who don't have a teen daughter or know what this is, it stands for "Brazilian Butt Lift", a surgical procedure where your own body fat from your stomache or thighs is injected into your butt, so that it looks larger.
Needless to say, I have not had a BBL. I've just always had this butt. Thank you kindly genetics.
Back when I was 19, I remember the aspirational look was no butt. Almost as if your legs went all the way to your hips. Think Niki Taylor - '90s supermodel.
For years, I tried different gym workouts to see if I could shift my natural BBL (remember step classes?)
But no - this butt was here to stay.
So when Charley said this to me, I just laughed. Oh the irony! After years of wanting a different butt, I'm now FINALLY IN FASHION.
The point?
Fashions change.
Trends change.
Cultures change.
Perspectives change.
And yes - I've also changed.
I now care a lot less about what others think, and more about what I think. It's the best thing about being older.

Being fully you is what's truly beautiful. It's the ultimate challenge and gift.
It just takes time to believe it.
