The Joy of Reconnecting
Apr 30, 2025
One of the things I love the most is coming back "into orbit" with people you really like and respect. When this happens, it feels like no time has passed.
Of course, there are updates on family and life, but then it feels so effortless to enjoy each other's company. There are no "unspoken rules" around topics - you just move naturally between anything and everything.
Banter is mixed with deeper themes, and personal sharing is mixed with reminiscing. Laughter is embedded into the fun and joy of connecting once again.
I had the pleasure of such an evening last night, with Damon Robbins and Vanessa Raso.
I first met Damon about 10 years ago when he worked at Tabcorp. We came into orbit again when he was the CEO News Perform. It's through Damon that I also met Vanessa (and within a week it felt like we had known each other for years).
Now we are all doing different things and working at different places - but Vanessa reached out to have dinner as she was in Sydney, and bought us all together.
It's a privilege to stay in someone's orbit. It doesn't mean that you see each other frequently, but when the planets do align - it creates a gravitational pull to celebrate this moment and enjoy what is unique about this relationship.
It doesn't matter that time has passed. What matters is a deep connection still exists in the present.
I think the photo says it all! (thanks Vanessa Raso - your photo skills are well beyond mine!)
